Development of design strategies and methods/tools including user and business understanding (ESR 10)
How can the design phase accelerate the implementation of circular economy for the benefit of business and sustainability?
There is a clear scientific consensus on the need to develop a more sustainable society. However, there is also a clear gap between our knowledge of what can be done and what is actually being done. One of the difficulties is surmounting business paradigms and aligning them with the shift towards sustainability. The design phase is a crossroads for business and design needs – each company defines its equilibrium state where both business and design needs are met. Exploring this arena means exploring the pivotal points that are preventing companies from becoming circular. Gaining insight into these issues allows for not only improved collaboration between business and design teams, but also for new business opportunities. The goal is to develop a tool that uses a company’s own values to guide them to appropriate circular economy solutions in an autonomous process. Creating clear, easy to understand solutions and quantifiable objectives will help companies understand and implement circular economy strategies, leading to stronger business and a more sustainable society.
